Topic: From Spatial Observation to Predictive Models of Cell-Matrix Interactions
Speaker: Valerio Izzi, Associate Professor of Bioinformatics, University of Oulu
Valerio Izzi leads a research group focused on computational approaches to understanding the cell microenvironment. Trained as a molecular biologist, he obtained his PhD in Immunology and Applied Biotechnology at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” before moving to Finland in 2012. His research has since evolved at the interface of extracellular matrix biology, cancer, and bioinformatics, with a particular interest in how cell-matrix interactions shape tissue organization and disease. His group develops computational and data-driven approaches to integrate molecular, spatial, and extracellular matrix information, with the aim of turning complex biological observations into predictive models.
